Happy as a Clam

Journaling:

After three days out of the house drawing multiple detailed sketches, I was ready to stay home and draw something quick and easy. Carol C. (cacollieotr) inadvertently became my muse.

Under my Relay for Life sketch I wrote, "I and my little introverted self retreated to the solitude of the high bleachers with Implements of Sketchification while my extroverted playmates worked the crowd on the field."

Carol commented, "I can see you in my mind, huddled up in the bleachers, happy as a clam!"

Yes, yes, yes! I could see it too, the clam part I mean. Had to draw.

Clam is such a fitting description of little ol' introverted me hiding behind a sketchbook. Thank you Carol for the inspiration!

Decided to add the iconic Speck pigtails and red striped shirt.

Not a Nurse

Hubby is rarely sick. In fact, this is the first time he's been sick since I've known him...going on 30 years. He just doesn't get colds, flu, stomach bugs and gut bugs like normal people. Because of that he's being a big ol' baby. He's not going to die but he thinks he is.

This has all brought to bear something I've always known in my heart - I am NOT a good nurse. May it's just that Hubby isn't a good patient.

I did all the nursey type things. I checked his temperature, brought him aspirin for the fever, cold cloths for his forehead, medicine for his tummy, changed his sheets, bought some bland foods, and fixed him things to eat.

However, there's only a certain amount of moaning and bellyaching I can tolerate.

No, you are NOT about to die, you're just sick. Now be quiet and go back to bed! Sheesh!

Hand Surgery

1) Cut V-shaped bit of skin and fatty tissue.

2) Turn and flip V-flap over end of exposed bone. Fatty bits give protection and padding to end of bone.

3) Sew long end of flap under fingernail. Pull second section edges together and sew closed, forming a 'Y'.

This was BIL's surgery (as I understand it) to reconstruct his missing fingertip. I chuckled at the part about taking fatty bits as a cushion because BIL has no fatty bits anywhere on his body.

Initial bandages have to stay on for two weeks. Full recovery in ten weeks or so.

The only problem will be trying to keep BIL out of his toolbox for that long. It may kill his soul.

Hubby took my granny ride to work today so I had to drive his truck to run errands. I was terrified. It was like driving an 18-wheeler and I felt like I was taking up both lanes.

Momma was not happy.
